WE HAVE BEEN LIGHTING THE SAN FERMIN FESTIVITIES FOR TEN YEARS!

07/07/2023

For the last ten years, our "La Cabra" wick has been used to light the chupinazo of the San Fermin festivities in Pamplona and today we tell you the story of how a letter made this possible.

The beginning of the story goes back a few years, when the Cabré family, founder of the company, was watching the chupinazo of the festivities live. They noticed that the rocket was lit with a lighter and, being specialists in fuse and knowing the risk involved in lighting pyrotechnics with a lighter, they saw an immediate danger as well as a great opportunity.

This is how Francisco Cabré, third generation of the Cabré family in charge of La Industrial Algodonera, decided to send a letter to the mayor of Pamplona at that time, Joseba Asiron. The contents of the letter, although mostly a mystery, informed of the dangers of lighting firecrackers and other pyrotechnic products with a lighter, due to their rapid combustion and the short reaction time of the person lighting them. He also added a flyer of our emblematic orange fuse. However, the reply to this letter never arrived.

To the family's surprise, the following year's chupinazo was lit by the director of the Red Cross and, guess what? Yes. With our tinder wick.

In gratitude, Mr. Cabré again sent a letter to the Guardia Urbana and firefighters, to show his satisfaction with the change of utensil for the lighting of the rocket.

Since then, we can see year after year, as a small orange wick lights the San Fermin festivities.
